SICH is a free public service to community artists, consisting of varying workshops and gatherings. Geared towards surrounding oneself with people who share common interest. No rules or fees, only the desire to share, yourself and craft with others.

This season of workshops starts Monday, December 14th at 8 p.m, and every Monday there after.
Our generous host is the lovely Cargo Cafe located @ 120 Bay Street.

Did you know that COAHSI is the first Staten Island recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation's Cultural Innovation Fund? We are one of the 18 organizations to receive a grant to help support art and artists here in NYC. With the funds, COAHSI would like to redesign and repurpose the North Shore waterfront as a creative sector incubator.

Samhain: The Witches New Year

Staten Island native Mark Eadicicco – a witch, psychic and proprietor of Practical Magick, a New Age shop in Port Richmond – will run this program about Samhain. Join us for a candlelight procession where we'll journey from the Hall to the ritual’s spot in the South Meadow. Participants are advised to bring along a flashlight—or small jack-o-lantern.

“Samhain is the night where the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. It is a night that we can walk between the worlds, and our ancestors can walk into our world very easily. Samhain is the most important of all of the ancient rituals.”

Join us: Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7pm in front of Snug Harbor Cultural Center’s Veterans Memorial Hall -- for an unforgettable and authentic ritual that has its roots in the ancient Celtic past of Europe.

So, here we are 5 years later. What started out as two college students sharing an idea to create a music event in a Deaf club has turned into a beautiful project that has involved 9 completed Sign Interpreted Concerts with 36 performances of over 150 songs interpreted into American Sign Language.

November 21st will mark the 10th concert in the Sign Interpreted Concert Series...

"Getting & Dealing with Reviews"- COAHSI is doing a series of Music Panels for Musicians this year. Our first panel "Getting & Dealing with Reviews," is about getting your music reviewed, through newspaper, magazines, blogs, etc. We also go through what music writers/editors look for in music, how they choose the music they review, and we'll give you some positive pointers on what to do when you get a BAD review. Hear from the panelists, and then ask questions of your own.

"Road Trip: Staten Island" Debut

Staten Island OutLOUD offers a special opportunity for young Islanders, ages 10-15. Young Writers OutLOUD meets on Saturday afternoons, October 10, 17 & 24th, from 2-4pm at the Richmondtown branch of the New York Public Library, located at 200 Clarke Ave, Staten Island NY 10306. FREE!

Young Writers OutLOUD is a welcoming and challenging series of workshops that enhance appreciation of American classics, and encourage young Islanders to develop their own creative writing styles. A portion of every workshop will focus on spoken-word performance.

Staten Island OutLOUD's Young Writers OutLOUD workshops give Island youth an opportunity to write and perform their own original work, as well as some important classics. Some work by young Island writers is already published here on our website. In its eight-year history, Los Angeles, California based 17-piece Industrial
Jazz Group has developed a reputation for fun, high-energy, quirky,
genre-bending shows, featuring what it calls "avant garde party music."
Frustrated by the limitations of "Jazz, the Institution," but equally resistant
to the confines of modern pop, the IJG has slowly pioneered a hybrid sound: an
idiosyncratic blend of rock, bebop, cartoon soundtracks, trad jazz, blues, funk,
Balkan music, doo wop, and, well, a lot of other stuff.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH in a special one-night only concert at Galerie St.
George, 11 Phelps Place off Hamilton Avenue, the group will play two 45-minute sets starting at 8:00 p.m.

We expect to sell out quickly, so please reserve your tickets well in advance.

Every penny will go to the group to help offset travel, lodging and production
expenses for their East Coast tour.

Staten Island OutLOUD presents “Path To Glory”, a spoken-word performance with music, on Sunday October 4, 2009, at 4pm at the historic New Dorp Moravian Church, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island. “Path To Glory” recounts the heroic story of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, a Staten Islander, and the first African-American Regiment of the Civil War. The event is free and open to the public.

Nicholas Fevelo & Paul Moakley: Boys to Men

Boys to Men Highlights new work by Staten Island photographers Nicholas Fevelo and Paul Moakley, an exhibition exploring themes surrounding masculinity and prescribed gender roles. In his series documenting over eight years at the all-boys Monsignor Farrell High School, Moakley presents "Vir Fidelis/The Faithful Men", while Fevelo exhibits "Boys Scouts" and "Minutemen" - all compelling looks regarding the development of manhood and power. These astonishing bodies of work are intimate glimpses into the moments when boys learn to become men and those inherent tensions, as well as the development of group mentality.

Nicholas Fevelo & Paul Moakley: Boys to Men will run from October 10th-November 6th. The opening will be on Saturday, October 10th from 7pm-10pm, and will feature a live musical performance by Nicholas Fevelo's band Orchard. The show will be open for regular hours Thursday and Fridays 5pm-8pm, Saturdays 12pm-8pm, and Sundays 12pm-5pm through the close of the show. Studio 150 is located at 150 Bay Street in Staten Island.
